Computation of a canonical form for linear differential-algebraic equations

This paper describes how a commonly used canonical form for linear differential-algebraic equations can be computed using numerical software from the linear algebra package LAPACK. This makes it possible to automate for example observer construction and parameter estimation in linear models generated by a modeling language like Modelica.

Counting Equivalent Linear Finite Transducers Using a Canonical Form

The notion of linear finite transducer (LFT) plays a crucial role in a family of cryptosystems introduced in the 80’s and 90’s. However, as far as we know, no study was ever conducted to count and enumerate these transducers, which is essential to verify if the size of the key space, of the aforementioned systems, is large enough to prevent an exhaustive search attack. In this paper, we determi...

Canonical Gravity with Fermions

Canonical gravity in real Ashtekar–Barbero variables is generalized to allow for fermionic matter. The resulting torsion changes several expressions in Holst's original vacuum analysis, which are explicitly displayed here. This in turn requires adaptations to the known canonical (loop) quantization of gravity coupled to fermions, which is discussed on the basis of the classical analysis.

Jordan Canonical Form

is the geometric multiplicity of λk which is also the number of Jordan blocks corresponding to λk . • The orders of the Jordan Blocks of λk must sum to the algebraic multiplicity of λk . • The number of Jordan blocks corresponding to an eigenvalue λk is its geometric multiplicity. • The matrix A is diagonalizable if and only if, for any eigenvalue λ of A , its geometric and algebraic multiplici...

The symplectic 2-form and Poisson bracket of null canonical gravity

It is well known that free (unconstrained) initial data for the gravitational field in general relativity can be identified on an initial hypersurface consisting of two intersecting null hypersurfaces. Here the phase space of vacuum general relativity associated with such an initial data hypersurface is defined; a Poisson bracket is defined, via Peierls’ prescription, on sufficiently regular fu...
